Important things to consider when buying a monument or marker.
Cemetery Rules:
Most cemeteries have their own rules and regulations regarding what they will allow to be installed. Often these rules vary from section to section within the same cemetery, so it helps to know the cemetery’s designation of the grave location. You need to be aware of the rules that apply to your location when you begin looking for a stone, we will need to know them when we talk. But don’t worry, if you would like, we can contact the cemetery for you. We are familiar with just about every cemetery in this part of Texas and can help you keep your design compliant with all rules. We have the required forms for the various cemeteries’ permits, waivers, foundation and setting fees and will complete them with you or you can complete them directly with the cemetery. However, we are required to send completed forms with the signature of the person whom the cemetery recognizes as the owner. Please be sure you know whose name will be accepted by the cemetery. Something to consider, know whether you need to mark a single grave or two graves side-by-side or a double depth or more burials in one grave space.
Match Existing Work:
Will you want to match existing work for other family members? We excel at duplication work, as we have been making monuments for four generations and know the skills that were needed to craft the older styles, as well as the current technologies.
The Meier Process:
There are a ton of moving pieces and our process has withstood the test of time. Here is a summary of the process for transparency:
- Contract
- Design
- Approval
- Cemetery Approval
- Wait for Granite to be delivered
- Production
- Setting at Cemetery
Contract /Deposit – We require a deposit to be paid to start the contract, which is 1/2 the granite price. You are welcome to make payments for remaining balance; however, the final balance is required before delivery is scheduled. Acceptable forms of payment: in office, mail, and phone(credit card). As your contract indicates, the approximate completion / delivery date is based on when all approved documents have been received, not from the date of contract.
Design:
The family gets to design the stone. You will get a proof layout to approve, however you can revise until you are satisfied. There will be a charge added to account balance for each revision after 3. After we have approved layout, the cemetery will approve it to ensure it is acceptable and within their standards.
Granite:
We do try to order from vendors that have the granite in their inventory as much as possible. If it is not in inventory, it will be ordered from the manufacturer, which could be imported and will take longer to receive. This doesn’t prevent us from beginning the process of designing your memorial. The cost of the granite includes the engraving on the front of the stone, delivery to the cemetery and setting if applicable.
Production:
Once the granite has been received and we have all approved/signed documents, your memorial will be scheduled for production. Depending on the amount of memorials in line determines the completion timeline, this could be an approximate time of 6 months. We will notify you when completed. Once memorials are in the shop, they are not completed in any particular order therefore we don’t know where in line your monument is or when it will be completed. We will notify you when completed.
Completion / Delivery to Cemetery:
Due to changing times in our industry completion times are ranging from approximately 9-12 months, after we’ve received all approved documents, or sooner. Our entire industry is backed up and is taking longer than anticipated to work through the progress of creating your memorial.
